ArtHaus is the perfect place to gain first-hand experience in arts administration and arts education. Unpaid internship opportunities are available for college students from Luther College and elsewhere and will be tailored to match student schedules and interests. A commitment of 10-12 hours per week is needed. Hours will vary but will generally occur between 10 am and 2 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with some possible weekend and evening hours for after-hour events and classes. Potential interns should possess an attention to detail, be punctual and reliable, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the interest and ability to interact with ArtHaus users of all ages.
Internships are available to focus in one of 4 areas of ArtHaus’ operations:
- Arts education — be mentored in the management of ArtHaus’ studio space (516 W. Water Street) and assist with hands-on youth art classes. Tasks associated with this will include inventorying and ordering supplies, assisting with youth art classes as well as ensuring that the studio space is kept organized and clean. Arts education interns will also be encouraged to develop and execute project plans for classroom implementation and online sharing.
- Arts management — internships related to arts management may include but will not be limited to installing artwork for exhibitions, communicating with artists, assisting with exhibition and art fair marketing and event hosting.
- Arts administration — provide assistance with day-to-day administrative tasks including but limited to data base management, volunteer recruitment, gallery management, fundraising, grant writing, event planning, file organization, data collection, and record keeping.
- Marketing — internships related to marketing at ArtHaus may include but not be limited to capturing and cataloging photos of ArtHaus events and classes, shooting and creating video of ArtHaus events and classes, creating and sharing content on ArtHaus’ social media channels, producing and distributing marketing materials.
To apply for an ArtHaus internship, email us or drop off a cover letter, a resume, and a list of three references. Or you can complete the online internship application and we’ll get back to you.
Can you believe that ArtHaus is operated by a staff of two part-time directors along with assistance from students employed by Luther College’s work study program and an active board of directors? We are able to do this and keep our overhead low with the help of volunteers from through the community. Volunteers are regularly needed to assist with children’s classes, help with mailings, setup and take-down for events and exhibitions, and general office operations and marketing support. Or maybe you have a special skill like photography or carpentry, and you’d like to take photos at an event or building us some shelving in our studio space. Just let us know how you’d like to help!
ArtHaus is also working towards a more regular exhibition schedule, meaning that gallery sitters will be needed throughout the week and on Saturdays. If you are interested in lending your time and talents to any of the tasks above, please complete the online volunteer questionnaire and we’ll be in touch to get you involved! When volunteering for a specific event, you will receive free admission. Volunteer 5 hours or more a month (or 30 hours in a year), and receive 10% off classes for you or your immediate family!
We’ve added an even easier way to become a volunteer — especially if you like just helping with events! Sign up today on VolunteerSpot to become an ArtHaus Helping Hand. It simple to create an account and then you can view opportunities to man the admission table, set up or take down for events, or a variety of other small jobs that will go a long way to help ArtHaus open the doors to creative expression for our entire community.
