On Display Through May 29: Emerging Artist Exhibition

Featured artists in the 2015 exhibition include: Kristen Anderson, Courtney Bergey, Jennifer Bonnell, Anna Carlson, Peter Ecklund, Carly Ellefsen, Samual Gathje, Jill Hess, Samantha Hilby, Ashley Hogenson, Ben Holmberg, Jordan Jirschele, Rachel Madryga, Lauren Matysik, Jake Putnam, Jacob Clausen, and Savannah Horn.

Awarded Best in Show was Anna Carlson of Bethel University for her lithograph triptych from an ongoing series entitled “Up Next,” which questions the portrayal of information by the media and the distorted perspectives of reality that can be created. Carlson won $200 and a solo exhibition at ArtHaus to take place in 2016. Runner up and winner of $100 was Samuel Gathje of Luther College for his powerful wall-hung sculpture entitled “Compression” made from strips of exotic woods held together by clamps. Honorable Mentions were awarded to Jordan Jirschele of the University of Wisconsin-Stout for her charcoal and ink drawing entitled “Untitled (crow I)” and Kristen Anderson of Luther College for her ink and acrylic painting entitled “Di Sotto.”

The exhibition will be on display at ArtHaus’ exhibition space at 508 West Water Street in downtown Decorah through May 29. The exhibition and its opening reception, held Friday, April 3, have been sponsored by the Decorah Area Team of Thrivent Financial.
